Questions supervisors and command staff ask first
What does Shift Relay replace?
Verbal pass-downs, paper log books, whiteboards, group texts, and the email chain a supervisor rebuilds every shift change. It becomes the single record of what happened and what was passed forward.
Does it replace CAD, RMS, dispatch, or payroll?
No. Shift Relay sits alongside those systems. It covers the operational shift record — briefings, logs, handoffs, tasks, announcements, and equipment status.
How long does implementation take?
Most organizations are running their first real shift within a few days. Setup is your shift structure, locations, teams, roles, and handoff categories.
Can we configure our own shift terminology?
Yes. Handoff is the default term, and organizations that say pass-down, turnover, changeover, or relief briefing can use their own labels along with their own job titles and categories.
Can multiple locations use the same organization?
Yes on Professional and Enterprise. Locations and teams live inside one organization so command staff see across sites while supervisors work their own.
What happens to unresolved work between shifts?
Open tasks, unresolved log entries, and equipment problems are gathered into the handoff draft automatically. The incoming supervisor reviews, accepts, assigns, and resolves each item, and the history stays attached.
Can employees acknowledge briefings?
Yes. Briefings are published with versions, and acknowledgment is tracked per person so supervisors can see who has not read it yet.
Is AI required?
No. AI drafts briefings, cleans up rough notes, and summarizes a shift, but every workflow works without it. AI output is always a draft a person reviews before publication.
Can we export our data?
Yes. Authorized users can export shift records, logs, handoffs, and tasks.
How is organization data separated?
Every record belongs to an organization and access is enforced with database row-level security plus server-side role checks, not by hiding buttons in the interface.
Is Shift Relay CJIS compliant?
No. Shift Relay is not currently marketed as CJIS compliant and should not be used to store NCIC returns, criminal-history data, evidentiary records, or protected health information.
Can we test it before purchasing?
